I can't say that I've tried editing those before though, so I can't guarantee that there's not some event in the file that kicks things off instead of the end_game_start=200 line (read: start the end game 200 years after the starting date of 2200). I played couple times with the original setting and the end game crisis was a joke. Big disappointment. I found a sweet spot at 2275/2300. This way mid game crisis starts 75 years into the game and the end game starts 150 years after the beginning. And I double the default strength. (x1.5->3.0)

The real way to "win" this game as far as I'm concerned is simply to make a successful empire, reach a state where none of the other players are a threat to you, and beat any end game crises that appear.
