Mercury 60 hp bigfoot problems.
Jan 24, 2015 · I have a 2012 Mercury EFI 60 hp motor that came on my Tracker 175, which I bought new. In the second year of use (after the warrantee was expired, of course!), while pulling my kids on a tow-able, I shut the motor off to collect a kid from the water and when I went to crank the motor, ALL of the electronics were dead.

If you are only reading in the 12.1-12.9 volt range, the alternator is not charging.The engine will bog out and die if you keep the throttole at 3200 or try to go higgher. This problem happens after a few hours of use or after 2 or more days of use. The engine runs fine and idles fine before the problem starts. The engine can be advanced in Neutral pass 3200 and runs fine. Compression is 125, 126 127 .

However the thermostat even if jammed closed will not be the problem, although changing it would be a generally good idea. I have just bought a 2004 60 efi, my fourth Mercury in 10 years.
