Turn the ATV off and disconnect the stator cable. Set the multimeter to test ohms. Place the meter leads on the pins in the connector the stator's cable was hooked to. It doesn't matter which lead you hook to which pin first. Make three tests to cover all of the combinations: pin 1 and pin 2, pin 2 and pin 3, and pin 1 and pin 3.

Just like mentioned above. Remove the stator connector and use your digital volt-ohm meter to test between the 3 wires. Set your DVOM on AC volts and probe 2 of the 3 wires with engine running at idle. You should be able to measure about 0.6 to 0.7 ohms between any 2 of those wires in 3 different combination's. Your sled will covert all it's power to DC voltage, where most of the others sleds run off AC voltage.
