No sense in going 11.5 in MLC upper. I skidded 11.5 with LMT. 12.5" is a midlength gas system and obviously 1" longer barrel length than the 11.5" which is a carbine length gas system. Recoil perception can be tuned and has more to do with what buffer system you have matched to your gas system. All you need to be sure of is: will your gas block clear the tight ID of the Specwar upper. My understanding is that most low-profile gas blocks will be fine. The decision to convert or not is yours. But if it were me, I would save the BRT barrel for another build and buy an LMT barrel for your Specwar. I have a Criterion 12.5 and the LMT Specwar.
