My experience with Clearblue advance ovulation tests, first test is always a blank circle as it is a base line reading. So make sure on the day you do your first ovulation test with your new tester you Test twice with same urine. Once you get a flashing smiley it will stay a flashing smiley every test till you get a solid smiley.

Posted 26-08-18. I had a whole packet of flashing smilies (apart from the first test - empty circle of course). I was also testing with cheapies and temping so know I ovulated. She’s now 2.5. I used them again with my second, I think I had about 8 days of flashing smilies before a solid smiley :) m.

Then if you used it a couple days before ovulation, you'd get the blinking smiley because your estrogen was higher than the first time. I'm thinking you skipped the blinking phase because it didn't have a baseline. Which is fine.
