Mater Dei was founded on February 2, 1928. Classes commenced on February 6, 1928, with 45 students. Initially, two Sisters were assigned to accompany the students to and from Rajprasong since the area was rather deserted. History of Mater Dei. Mater Dei High School first opened in September 1950 with 111 students. During that first year, a statue of Our Blessed Mother was presented to the school by the Young Ladies Institute. It was placed in the Grotto, where it remains today.
