Then mount a special wheel (prop) to run the engine up to 5000 rpm's, under load-then check the timing on #1 and #2 cyls. These details are in the factory service manual.

You should be able to achieve proper idle speed before the cam hits the roller. Throttle pickup timing (when the cam hits the roller) should be approximatly 4 deg ATDC. Hi. I have a 1985 Johnson 100 hp commercial outboard. The model number is J100WMLCOC. I cannot find the wot timing spec anywhere. I have looked many times on the net and here with no luck. The bolt at the high speed end goes though a hole so that end cannot really be adjusted. The bolt at the low speed end goes through a slot so there is about 1/4" of adjustment on that end.

Points opening time is more important than the distance they open. Just setting them 0.020″ is “good enough”, depending on manufacturing variations and your skill.
