Also, A K&N filter is an oiled filter so maybe that's the type filter you have. In any case, the oil in there shouldn't be excessive. 15646 posts · Joined 2003. #6 · Mar 1, 2006. The "oil" was probably just sooty water (condensation). I think if you had oil present in the exhaust pipes you would be blowing quite a bit of blue smoke. Rejet the bike and you should be fine. Don't skip your 8K valve adjustment. :wink:

I used the bottle the oil came in and slowly added the oil a pump or two at a time after I knew I had over 3 oz in the final. Way too much info for a guy who just wants to put the best-priced, quality oil in his bike. No one seems to agree. From my studies there are 3 or 4 that are the top contenders: 1- Rotella. 2- Amsoil. 3- Mobil 1. 4- mutual (or something like that)
Had my oil changed one time at dealership for a wopping $80.00 never again,so i change my own for $25.00 every 3,000 miles including the gaskets,final drive. Might be overkill but for $25.00 little more then a case of beer .Oh i use 10W40 Penns oil,wik filter.About every 2,000miles i add 4oz.put 4.1 ounces of the final drive oil back in through the fill hole (which is that "weird" bolt on the right side of the case as you're facing it). honda says to roll the bike forward while you're doing it. too much of a PITA, just get the 4.1 in there. put a litte oil on the o-ring on the fill hole bolt, and put it back on. torque is 9 ft-lbs. VTX's Do require a higher idle than a HD. You don't want an X to sound like a HD.
