Kawasaki vulcan 1500 starting problems.
A friend owns a 1999 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic. Last week he was riding and heard a clicking or rattling noise in 3rd gear. He parked the bike for several days. He then rode it from his garage and after about 3 miles he is m unable to shift lower than 4th gear. He now only have 4th & 5th gears. Any ideas or fixit ideas. thanks.

Once it has over 30-40k miles, it may need cam chain tensioner extenders, but that's an easy fix. Give a very small amount of throttle, but dont twist back and fore when trying to start. Once started, leave the "choke" out for a couple minutes. Noisy lifters - HELP! My 2009 Voyager with 10,000 miles had been running fine until one morning when I started it to go for a ride. There was a LOUD clicking coming from the top end of the front cylinder. Using my stethoscope, I isolated the noise to the exhaust valve. It sounded a lot like a solid lifter that was WAY too loose!

I turned the key, all my lights work and horn. When I turn on the bike there is a click at the battery and the lights on the dash goes off.I have a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic FI VN1500-N4. It’ll start up no problem first time. Take it for a ride, no matter how far/long, or even just let it idle and warm up. Once I shut it off if I go to start it back up within like 10-20 minutes it’s won’t start. It’ll ignite once then just continue cranking. After it’s sits for ...Having a no start issue. 1. Clean your ground cable where it attaches to the back of motor. Make sure its tight. 2. Disconnect your battery, make sure your wires attaching to your starter solenoid are clean and tight. Don't just look at them, undo the connectors and make sure. Reattach your ground.But most likely Kawasaki heat treats all gears together in one batch, so in this case they may have produced an entire manufacturing run of 6th gears with the same problem. Sounds like your clutch cable is out of adjustment. If you have the manual, check for proper clearance at the lever. If you don't have access to a manual try leaving 1 to 1.5 mm freeplay at the lever. oldPeacenik and Dixiedog1818.2. Very strong vibration and grinding when exceeding 120km/hr from the engine causing the handle to rattle and causing body aches. Unable to see the rear mirror due to strong vibration. 3. Fuel consumption is quite high. Manage to get only 150km on a full tank. Average speed 120km/hr.Re-check frame ground for good contact. I suggest removing the bolt or nut, scuffing the frame/engine surface and ground cable terminal with an abrasive material, apply a dielectric grease and reconnect. Make sure the ignition coils are connected properly.
