A good PvE weapon is all about the moveset. Slash is the weakest form of damage IIRC, but slash weapons are usually faster and lighter than the heavy-hitting strike weapons. My go-to's for a "Quality Build" (all weapons, no fancy shit) are a slash/thrust weapon, a slow-but-hard-hitting weapon, and a spear/rapier for narrow corridors and/or bosses.
